The Word of the Lord Spread
“In this way the word
of the Lord spread and grew in power.”
Acts 19:20
There’s nothing quite like a good testimony in the midst of
a mess. This was the scene unfolding in
Acts 19, which places Paul in Ephesus.
It was home to a hotbed of evil.
There was idolatry, goddesses, witchcraft and more. Paul had walked right into it all and after
three months of sharing God’s word in the synagogue, he went to Tyrannus for
two years.
During that time there were numerous miracles and healings
done by the Lord through Paul. After an
encounter with the seven sons of Sceva, the people in Ephesus had heard the
testimony of what the Lord had been doing.
Suddenly confessions were coming forth, scrolls of sorcery were being
burned, and it was a time of forward movement for the gospel.
It was “in this way the word of the Lord spread and grew in
power.” The context is important for
understanding the verse and how it can be applied in our lives today. When members of our church are healed and the
testimony is shared, the word of the Lord spreads and becomes in some
mysterious way even more powerful.
People’s faith seems to expand and enlarge along with the word, which
takes root in their lives and causes powerful things to occur. There are more healings, character changes,
transformation and so much more.
Watch for the testimonies and look for the word of the Lord
to spread and grow!
