God Remembered
“So God heard their
groaning and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with
Jacob. And God looked upon the children
of Israel, and God acknowledged them.”
Ex. 2:24-25
Israel was in Egypt and under the harsh oppression of the
Egyptian king. Israel’s groan was its
lament and cry for deliverance from the place of bondage and suffering and
enslavement. This passage declares the
following truths:
1) God heard their
cries;
2) God remembered His
covenant with His people;
3) God looked at His
people; and,
4) God acknowledged
them.
In the next chapter of Exodus we read of Moses and the
burning bush encounter. Things were
about the dramatically change for Israel.
We can find ourselves in a place of bondage and
suffering. It can be a place that is
physical, emotional, or spiritual. That
place can bring us to the point of crying out to God, much like the
Israelites. Friends, know that God will
hear our cries. He will remember His
covenant with His people. He will look
at us and acknowledge us. He will meet
us at our place of need and lift us up.
He will lift us up.
An interesting point about what God did in this passage from
Exodus was a hidden work. The Israelites
did not see this happening. They learned
later about a divine encounter God had with Moses -- and yet God’s remembering and
acknowledging His people happened well before that. As we are going through a season of trial or
bondage, though we cannot see it, God is listening. He is tuned in to hear the cries of His
people, to remember the New Covenant and the cost of the Covenant with the life
of His Son, Jesus. He will look at us
and acknowledge us. Our burning bush
encounter is a chapter ahead.
