The Shadow of Shaddai
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under
the shadow of the Almighty.” Ps. 91:1
I enjoy the powerful instructions
provided in Scripture. Psalm 91:1 is a
perfect example of God’s instruction. It
is an instruction of guidance that gives hope, encouragement, and
protection. If we dwell in the secret
place of El Elyon, the Most High God, then we shall remain under the shadow of
El Shaddai, God Almighty.
If we look closer at this verse,
our specific instruction is to dwell in the secret place of the Most High
God. The word dwell is “yashab” in
Hebrew and means to return to a place and set ourselves down for a long period
of time; as if to settle or remain there.
The secret place is the covering or hiding place. So, we are return to the covering of God and
remain there. If we do that, the result
is that we remain, which is the Hebrew word “luwn.” This means we stay, or lodge under the shadow
of El Shaddai – our Almighty God.
Let us settle in the secret place
of our Most High God – the God who is above all things, sees all and knows
all. As we settle in there, we shall
find ourselves lodging in the protective shadow of Shaddai – covered by the One
who hovers over us with love and compassion.
